Work Rant - just some people

Work Rant - just some people

Please imagine a deep sigh after the word people.

Because by people I am talking about some of the most stuck-up snobs that think they are oh so put out because haven forbid they should have their account and login information ready when calling tech support. They like to insist that verification is for the 'them' or 'the other people'.

I kid thee not, the first five minuets with this type of call are almost always listening to the caller try and argue their way out of not having to be verified. Most are just too lazy to give the information that they already have memorized. There are a small few who get some kind of power trip from forcing us to ask.

We are not allowed to say that this is what fraudsters say. I personally think we should be able to tell them but there are plenty of stupid people that would think we are calling them fraudsters.

The amount of accountants that say they don't know what an account number is just mind boggling. The amount that says they don't know what a bank account number is is equally horrific. Their whole job is working with their companies back accounts and... they are saying they don't know what that is? I have only had one caller that i think was 100% serious in that they didn't know.

Adding to the list behind accountants but chief financial officers (CFO) who are also saying that they don't know what account numbers are? Honestly these people should not be making more money then me.

When people call in that they were victims of fraud that was very obvious and omg they could get into so much trouble because we/the bank did this? They get treated the same but whoo boy are they mocked after the call.

You want a good way to avoid fraud? Just assume that any email you get that is providing you account info to send funds to is from a fraudster. So all the info provided in the email is going to be fake. This is EXTREMELY important for if you are in HR because they never verify the information. They just do it and then they are surprised when they are told it's wrong after the fact. Steps that their own company rule book says they they will do, and then they don't? all on them and yet they will try and pass the blame.

Honestly I'm surprised that workers haven't sued them for such stupidity.

The kicker is, the stupid financial people are always in the companies that make the big bucks. Why fraudsters are not just going after them is beyond me. All they would have to do is look at the reviews and go after the horrible big companies and then the big companies? No one would care and would probably see the fraudsters as heroes.

Well, the bank workers would still be pissed. But if it was consistent then they could just fire the companies that are too stupid.

Honestly, I think the fraudsters that get caught scamming individuals or who focus on the elderly, They deserve to work the customer support lines and suffer. Make it even better so that if they get snarky they get a zap. Honestly I think that should be done for some callers.

But yeah, fraud bad and the stupid companies that don't follow their own rules about commonsense deserve to suffer for it. And this is me being nice.

On working in customer service part 1

I can not describe how many times a customer has tried to tell me I was wrong because the answer that they got wasn't the one that they liked.

Or just skipped past telling and launched right into screaming at me because they don't want to follow the rules. Or they don't want me to follow the rules.

I also really don't understand how an accountant can call a bank and hear the message that you need your account info and verification info... and still have no idea what an account number is. These people make so much more then me and I have to wonder how.

It's one thing to forget that you are on hold while on hold. That actually happens a lot. But to say they have no idea what an account number is? Right after saying that they are calling about a specific account?

The second bit is when they claim they don't have access to the info and then magically produce it as if they are laboring so hard to.. be prepared to do their job? The horror!

And then there are the people that know all their info and are fully prepared that call in while driving.

Seriously, they will be calling in for help with their computer and.. be driving.

I still haven't gotten an answer from our managers for what would happen if the caller gets into an accident.

Yup. This is my life now.

Wow

So... Wow. A quick update?

Budget took a hit from my car. My planed move got pushed back one year.

Good news: we are learning new stuff at work.
Bad news: we are switching to a new system in one day with no gradual change.

We are switching from out old system to medent. Instead of doing this gradually over the course of a month and just eating the price of our sanity... The company is waiting until the last moment and killing our old program ASAP.  Personally I feel we should have been adding new pt's to the new system and gradually adding the current pt's to the new schedual. But what do I (and the rest of my department) know?

I will not be surprised if we loose pt's over this. Sending medical records got a lot harder and we are down another person because she got her dream job.

Lots of stress to be had. Plans and stories to post. Wednesday is not going to be fun.

And yes, I will be posting an incoherent ramble Wednesday. Just warning.

Of Stress and Work

If you are getting stressed about things out side of your job and you are finding that it is impacting your abilities.... Talk to someone about it. Hopefully you are on good terms with your area supervisor or manage and they are already aware that you are getting a little more stressed then normal.

If they don't already know and they approach you about it, tell the truth. Thank them for noticing and explain what you have done to try and fix it. Ask them if they have suggestions. It is possible that there might be something that they changed that could be adding stress to you that you didn't know about it.

But above all keep calm. Understand that you are doing something wrong and that you are in need of help and explain this to them. This can be a hard topic to approach because you don't want to always be pointing out your flaws.

However, this might be take out of your hands if a coworker with their own and often loudly proclaimed stress problems might try to use you as a target if you are not careful. Don't say anything negative about them directly or in an aggressive manner. If you are the mature and understanding your managers could be impressed. (and hopefully turn their attention to the coworker.)

So remember, don't get stressed if you are left alone by the other coworker. Just ask your supervisor or manager for help until they come back because you can't handle everything alone.

Longest Interview Proses Ever

"Well, long time no update. The main reason for that is I have been going through one of the longest interview proses in my live. It spanned almost two months with three interviews and one test. Everyone was so nice and everything.

And I got the job. :3

I can't tell you how happy I am about this. All the stress of looking and here it is. I have to say I did not find this job on my own. I did work with a hiring agent and she was very helpful. Two actually, both at different companies and both were very nice and helpful.

I can't believe I don't have to keep waiting to hear back on an interview anymore.

I can't tell you how badly I wanted this job. The people I met were wonderful and it just felt right. They have a wonderful training program. The are also closer to my home so I will have a shorter commute. They also have wonderful benefits.

The only problem is that my new school is near my old job. So I will probably end up dorming 1-2 nights a week and then heading strait to work. it's going to be interesting learning all my new classes and job duties at the same time.

Adding the the stress, I have to go shopping and get my new work cloths because I'm going from uniform to work casual. My sister is looking forward to it."

God this is from so long ago. If you ever find yourself apart of an interview proses that takes two or more months you need to think about it and see if there were any warning signs about the company that you might have missed. Don't let desperation blind you to interviewer stupidity.

And if they ALWAYS get your current job title wrong (say calling you a manager instead of a receptionist) then get the hell away from them as soon as possible.

Just saying...

Another break...

I haven't posted lately because I am so exhausted.

I found a new job that is just... amazing. the people are real and that makes a world of difference. It's farther away but it's a nice commute.

The customers are out of their minds, full of themselves and I just can't tell you about the entitlement. Seriously one doctor went on vacation for the holiday and someone wanted him to come in specifically for them.

But that is stuff that goes away when the customer leaves.

Also? People bring us food. Not just sales people but some customers do and they are so amazing.

And there are sales reps that bring in food also. This is a bit complicated though because of new laws to prevent favoritism. Which is ridiculous because sales are made based on the sales persons ability to sale and be remembered rather then what they feed us. By 'us' I mean the whole office. Which is good because the good sales people talk to us also even if they don't feed us. The talking is a nice thing because it's not just sales but how you are doing.

And how they treat us is a big selling point because if there is a rep that only want to feed and talk to only the doctors then from what I have seen we don't really see a lot of that rep.

So with the new laws I feel bad for the good reps because they get massive budget cuts and we don't get to talk to them. A lot of them have really amazing products too. The only thing it will be good for is everyone's diet.

But my new job rocks! :3

On the job hunt

So, the job I loved turned out to be a bad decision on my part. I had a few warning signs during the hiring process that I looked past. I also looked past the lack of a training program that they had raved about.

They let me go.

All I really know is that I can never in good faith recommend this company for anyone looking for a job. God help the next person that works there.

A Break in the Silence

Well, long time no update. The main reason for that is I have been going through one of the longest interview processes in my live.
The only problem is that my new school is now my old school. The advance program was so rigorous that if I had to choose my job or my grades... Well, I chose my job before it got to that point. While this program was not for me I have nothing but good things to say about the people that I met.
While talking about school and degrees at work they asked me if I was going to make this job a career. At first I didn't understand what them meant but upon asking they said that this company values experience over degrees. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to hear this. They also said that if I do feel that I want a degree that there was another, far cheaper, school that I could go to and that the company does tuition reimbursement.

I really do love this job.

Right now I am starting a 6 month training program. Barring the whole IT department disappearing my first week, things are going well. I have a while before I will be able to pull my weight but I have been reassured that this is normal for this position.

So. Happy.

To Job Hunt or to Wait

So I never got a call back from a job I would have loved and flourished in. It was extreamly dissapointing but at the same time it was almost a relief.

Almost.

I belive I will be starting in a new college in May so I am going to have to do a lot of running around to get that set up. Trying to do that while learning a new office, names, ect? I think it could have not ended so well and at this point I will never know. They also did not send a ding letter which is just annoying since they made it seem like I was their first choice. But in this day and age no one gets told that they were not chosen.

I know I don't want to hope that the person they chose doesn't work out so that they might call me. While part of me secretly hopes I will get called regardless, in this economy everyone needs the jobs they can get. I am not desperately searching for a job so I don't feel that I should be bitter about not getting chosen.

I just keep hoping that when I do finish college that I will get off my butt, go to NYC and find a job.

Stress at Work

I can never tell how stressed I am until something mundane from work pops into a dream. At which point in the dream that mundane job duty I can never seem to finish and bosses & co-workers are freaking out at me. It's even worse when I can't remember that it was a dream. then I'm all paranoid at work and it's just not fun.

It's usually running late to work to the point that work is closed and it's late at night. Once it was falling alseep at my desk only to wake up and find myself locked in. This past time was about filing the same file because i kept finding it while trying to do something else and then being fired because i didn't get the other things done.

If I could find a away to never have these kinds of dreams I would be all to happy.

Job stress I can deal with. Stress about my job in my sleep? Jury says no.
